The California Democratic Party is led by delegates, called Assembly District Delegates (ADDs), from each of the 80 districts mapped to the state’s elected Assembly districts.
Elections, called Assembly District Election Meetings (ADEMS), for these ADDs occur in February of odd-numbered years, with 7 “self-identified female” and 7 “other than self-identified female” elected from each district.
Voting in these elections is open to all California residents registered as Democrats in the state assembly district they are running. In odd-numbered years after presidential elections, state Democratic Party officers are elected, including a Chair, two Vice-Chairs, Secretary, and Controller. You can find candidate information and register to vote on the ADEMS website.
Candidates who wish to stand for election must register from the district in which they are registered to vote (Sutter and Yuba County are in California Assembly District 3, with our elected state representative being James Gallagher (R) ).
Why Become a Delegate?
Becoming an ADD is an opportunity to represent the concerns of our area and help us shape California’s future.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- increase your political impact by voting for the endorsements of the California Democratic Party for partisan legislative and statewide office in California, vote for positions we take on the Ballot Propositions,
- build a community with passionate and diverse California Democrats,
- take on greater responsibility as a voice for your local district when establishing the official California Democratic State Platform (in even-numbered years),
- elect 16-25 CADEM Regional Directors who function as your liaison between the California Democratic Party, County Central Committees, and Democratic Party Clubs
